AUSTIN Police arrested a 35 year old Austin man Feb. 13 for allegedly selling counterfeit goods at a store along North Lamar.
According to a police affidavit, Austin police along with a private investigator visited the Mi Pueblito store along the 8900 block of North Lamar on Feb. 12. Investigators said they went to the store to check on suspected counterfeit items, and found “numerous counterfeited products” with the brand names “Louis Vuitton,” “Burberry” and “Otterbox.”
Officers returned to the store the following day to seize the counterfeit goods and arrested the manager, identified in the affidavit at Irfanbhai Momin. Police said Momin was “belligerant (sic) and evasive and uncooperative with investigators on scene.”
Police said Momin denied any knowledge of the illegal property, which police said was “in plain sight behind the counter.” Momin was arrested on a felony charge of trademark counterfeiting.
Momin bonded out of jail and as of Tuesday was back at his store. He declined to be interviewed on camera, but said his attorney would be reviewing the charges.
